The Measurement of Bone Mineral Density of Bilateral Proximal Humerus - Using DXA in Korean Patients with Unilateral Rotator Cuff Tear -

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Osteopenic or osteoporotic bone changes of proximal humerus may cause fracture or pull out of suture anchors during rotator cuff repair surgery[1], thereby compromising the success of repair. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the most popular technique to measure the general bone mineral density (BMD), especially at the hip and lumbar spine. However, there is wide variation of the BMD when measured at the different skeletal sites[2]. The purpose of the current study was (1) to evaluate and compare the BMD of bilateral proximal humerus in patients with unilateral rotator cuff tear (RCT), (2) to assess the relationship between the BMD of hip and lumbar spine measured by conventional DXA and that of proximal humerus, (3) to assess the correlation between 10-year probability of hip fracture and a major osteoporotic fracture calculated by FRAX tool (WHO Fracture Risk Assessment Tool) and BMD of the proximal humerus, and (4) to assess clinical factors affecting BMD of proximal humerus.

Comparison of Singh index accuracy and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density measurement for evaluating osteoporosis

Background: The Singh index is an inexpensive simple method to evaluate bone density, commonly used to assess osteoporosis is based on the radiological appearance of the trabecular bone structure of the proximal femur on a plain antero-posterior (AP) radiograph. The purpose of this study was to compare between Singh index and bone mineral density measurement using dual energy X-ray abs...

Treatment of Massive Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear with Arthroscopic Subacromial Bursectomy, Biceps Tenotomy, and Tuberoplasty

Background: The alternative surgery for massive and irreparable shoulder rotator cuff tears in older patients is thedebridement of subacromial bursa, biceps tenotomy, and tuberoplasty (reverse acromioplasty). This study aimed toreport the effectiveness of such a treatment performed arthroscopically in a small group of patients for a short periodof time. Methods: This pros...

Bilateral arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using a single-stage procedure.

Bilateral rotator cuff tears requiring repair are not uncommon. Typically, these tears have been treated with staged surgeries. However, in appropriately selected cases, single-stage repair is preferable because it reduces costs, the number of admissions, total hospitalization, and rehabilitation time. It can also reduce patient suffering by providing relief with a single procedure. The authors...

National utilization of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty in the United States.

BACKGROUND The substantial increase in the utilization of shoulder arthroplasty in the United States during the past decade is partly attributable to the growing acceptance of reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). This study compared the national utilization of and indications for shoulder hemiarthroplasty, total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA), and RSA. METHODS The Nationwide Inpatient Sample was...

The demographic and morphological features of rotator cuff disease. A comparison of asymptomatic and symptomatic shoulders.

BACKGROUND Very little comparative information is available regarding the demographic and morphological characteristics of asymptomatic and symptomatic rotator cuff tears. This information is important to provide insight into the natural history of rotator cuff disease and to identify which factors may be important in the development of pain. The purpose of the present study was to compare the ...
